Hamburg-based Salmco Technik was founded in 1984 and is the only company in Germany that produces both cold and fresh slicers for salmon. Under the management of its owner, Johann Glösmann and his ten employees, the company is versatile in other ways, too: Salmco has two further pillars of support in the form of comprehensive consultancy and the development of complete solution for individual companies.

The product range offers everything from simple hand slicers to semi- and fully automatic cold slicers and various fresh slicers. The company offers different solutions for different requirements: a specially modified cold slicer combined with a vacuum packaging machin, for example, for the complete production of 200gram packs; the newly developed fresh slicer SM 5045 has a 45 degree cutting angle to produce the 'bacon cut' which is particulary popular in the USA. By cutting the salmon fillet into three pieces and placing these crosswise on the conveyor belt it is also possible to produce rectangular slices for the catering sector with this machine. By making small alterations to the machines it is also possible to adapt them to processing fish species other than salmon, too.

With regard to size the Salmco slicers range from small to middle-sized, be- cause customers prefer to buy several middlesized sli- cers for the same price as one huge machine. Processors could work more flexibly if they had more machines. And, in addition, it is a way of reducing risk for, if a ma- chine breaks down, it don't mean the whole of produciton come to a stillstand.

Salmco has three areas of activity: the standard range of slicers, the development and combination of customer-oriented machines & complete processing lines and the comprehensive international consultancy.

The SM 3029 produce automatically preselected numbers of slices direct on the trays for consumers packs to save labur costs.

The more or less minor alterations to the standard machines lead inevitably to the second business divison, i.e. the developmentof individual solutions and complete processing lines. Salmco combine their own fish slicers with machines from other producers whose quality they know they can rely on and then bear full technical responsibility for the whole line.

Even emergency power generators have been supplied as part of some projects sold to customers based in regions with unreliable electricity supply. The company's international knowledge and experience of the cunstruction of such lines make Salmco competent consultant in fish processing matters.

Employees packing a new machine

Salmco exports to over 40 countries throughout the world. The company has various agencies and, in some countries, cooperation partners, such as Salmco Service Tasmania and Salmco Service Chile.

For, in such far-away places it can take days for a spare part of even a service technican to arrive from Germany. That is why it is so importent that, in spite of the wetness of the working enviroment within the fish industry and the high mechanical demands made on the machines involved, there should be no break-downs in the first place. And this means that the machines have to be emtremly robust, easy to operate and easy to clean.

Fully stainless-steel construcion, clear operator control panels with only a few keys and easy accessibility and exchange of all machine parts thus all points by which great store is set to Salmco
